The Baptism of The Holy Spirit-Our Living God’s Power

What It Means to Be Baptized in the Holy Spirit

The baptism in the Holy Spirit is understood to be a second baptism, “in fire” or “power,” spoken of by Jesus in Acts 1:8:

“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” (NIV)

burning fire and hot coals

Specifically, it refers to the experience of believers on the Day of Pentecost described in the book of Acts. On this day, the Holy Spirit was poured out on the disciples, and tongues of fire rested on their heads:

When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them. (Acts 2:1-4, NIV)
The following verses provide evidence that the baptism in the Holy Spirit is a distinct and separate experience from the indwelling of the Holy Spirit that occurs at salvation: John 7:37-39; Acts 2:37-38; Acts 8:15-16; Acts 10:44-47.

How To Recieve The Baptism of The Holy Spirit With Evidence of Speaking in Tongues

We have great news: , all you have to do is ask your heavenly Father for it. God wants every believer to be filled with the Holy Spirit and speak in other tongues.

Ask God right now. Receive the Baptism in the Holy Spirit just as you received Jesus—by faith, by believing God’s Word. You are His child and He is your Father. God is poised and ready to baptize you in His Holy Spirit when you ask Him.

Simply repeat this prayer out loud:

Dear Heavenly Father, I come to You in the Name of Jesus, and I desire to be baptized with Your Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in other tongues. Your Word says that I can have it, and I believe what You have said. I receive this gift by faith in Jesus’ Name. I thank You Father that I am baptized with the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in other tongues!

That’s it! You have received the Baptism in the Holy Spirit!

Now it’s possible you didn’t feel anything. In some cases, no new language comes out initially. But your receiving the Holy Spirit has nothing to do with initial feelings or what happens on the outside. God’s Word said that if you asked, you would receive. That means by faith you have received the Baptism in the Holy Spirit. Practice speaking in other tongues. It doesn’t matter if you start with one syllable or how silly you sound. Just keep praying and God will strengthen you in your prayer language. There are many people who receive the Baptism in the Holy Spirit and do not pray in tongues right away. Don’t be discouraged, it will come. Just don’t give up!

Baptism in Fire

John the Baptist said in Matthew 11:11: “I baptize you with water for repentance. But after me comes one who is more powerful than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.”

Pentecostal Christians like those in the Assemblies of God denomination believe that the baptism in the Holy Spirit is evidenced by speaking in tongues. The power to exercise the gifts of the spirit, they claim, comes initially when a believer is baptized in the Holy Spirit, a distinct experience from conversion and water baptism.

Other denominations that believe in Holy Spirit baptism are the Church of God, Full-Gospel churches, Pentecostal Oneness churches, Calvary Chapels, Foursquare Gospel Churches, and many others.

Specifically, it refers to the experience of believers on the Day of Pentecost described in the book of Acts. On this day, the Holy Spirit was poured out on the disciples, and tongues of fire rested on their heads:

They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them. (Acts 2:1-4, NIV)
The following verses provide evidence that the baptism in the Holy Spirit is a distinct and separate experience from the indwelling of the Holy Spirit that occurs at salvation: John 7:37-39; Acts 2:37-38; Acts 8:15-16; Acts 10:44-47.

How to Recieve The Baptism of The Holy Spirit

The Gifts of the Holy Spirit

The gifts of the Holy Spirit that accompany the baptism in the Holy Spirit as seen in the first-century believers (1 Corinthians 12:4-10; 1 Corinthians 12:28) include signs and wonders such as the message of wisdom, the message of knowledge, faith, gifts of healing, miraculous powers, discerning of spirits, tongues, and interpretation of tongues.

These gifts are given to God’s people by the Holy Spirit for “the common good.” 1 Corinthians 12:11 says that gifts are given according to God’s sovereign will (“as he determines”). Ephesians 4:12 tells us these gifts are given to prepare God’s people for service and for building up the body of Christ.

Receive the Baptism in the Holy Spirit

The baptism in the Holy Spirit is understood to be a second baptism, “in fire” or “power,” spoken of by Jesus in Acts 1:8:

“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.

The Assemblies of God trace their roots back to a revival that began in the late 1800’s. The revival was characterized by a widespread experience called the “Baptism in the Holy Spirit,” and speaking in tongues.

The leaders of this revival decided to unite in a cooperative fellowship in 1914 in Hot Springs, Arkansas. Three hundred ministers and laymen gathered to discuss the growing need for doctrinal unity and other common goals. As a result, the General Council of the Assemblies of God was formed, uniting the assemblies in ministry and legal identity, yet preserving each congregation as self-governing and self-supporting entities.

Assemblies of God Around the World

Today, the Assemblies of God denomination consists of more than 2.6 million people in the United States and more than 48 million members worldwide. The Assemblies of God is the largest of the Pentecostal Christian denominations in the world today. There are approximately 12,100 Assemblies of God churches in the United States and some 236,022 churches and outstations in 191 other countries. Brazil has the largest number of Assemblies of God churches, with more than 8 million members.

Assemblies of God Governing Body

The legislative body ruling over the Assemblies of God is called the General Council. The council is comprised of each ordained minister within all Assemblies of God churches and one delegate from each of the churches. Each Assemblies of God church maintains local autonomy as a self-supporting and self-governing entity and elects its own pastors, elders, and officers.

Apart from the local congregations, there are 57 districts in the fellowship of the Assemblies of God, each headed by a District Council. Each district can ordain ministers, plant churches, and offer assistance to the churches within their district. There are also seven divisions within the international headquarters of the Assemblies of God including the Division of Christian Education, Church Ministries, Communications, Foreign Missions, Home Missions, Publication, and other departments.

Assemblies of God Beliefs and Practices

The Assemblies of God are among the Pentecostal churches. The biggest distinction setting them apart from other Protestant churches is their practice of speaking in tongues as a sign of anointing and “Baptism in the Holy Spirit” — a special experience following salvation that empowers believers for witnessing and effective service. Another distinct practice of Pentecostals is “miraculous healing” by the power of the Holy Spirit. The Assemblies of God believe the Bible is the inspired word of God.

Further setting them apart, Assemblies of God churches teach that the initial physical evidence of the Baptism in the Holy Spirit is speaking in tongues, as experienced on the Day of Pentecost in the book of Acts and in the Epistles.

Final Thoughts On Freedom

From beginning to end, God’s Word insists on the reason and need for freedom in Christ Jesus. And God doesn’t leave us without a solution. He teaches us to grab the freedom He offers. First of all, it starts with acknowledging and admitting our brokenness as slaves to sin.

Eventually, slavery ends with choosing Jesus and following all His teachings every day. That is because He is the only one that can break the bonds of slavery and offer us true freedom, now and forever.

Dear Lord Jesus Christ,

I am sorry for the sins that I have committed in my life. Thank you for unconditional love and death on the Cross for me. Thank you for setting me free from all sins and forgiving me today. Dear Lord, my Savior. Please, come into my life. Fill me with your Holy Spirit. And be with me forever. Thank you so much, Jesus Christ!

In Jesus’s name, I pray and believe,

Did You Pray?

Congratulations My Brothers And Sisters In Christ

Now is the time to get rooted in a good bible believing church, that is exercising in the Gospel, and does not try to tickle your ear with the ways of the World. Remember when you see a Brother or Sister in Christ fall short, simply pray for them, and do not judge them, as we still fall short, however with our new born again spirit we now have a battle plan against Sin and pain. Please remember God does not look for extravagant great-sounding prayer, he looks for our heartfelt prayer. The colorful picture of Jesus holding his hand our for not, for your eternity.

One of the problems with our faith is many believe that a Christian should be some sort of perfect person, so when they see us fall short, in their eyes we are hypocrites. This is just another reason we need to be as upright and righteous in the world’s eyes. On the contrary, this does not mean we cannot have fun, as I have more joy now than ever in my life, the true joy that is meant for a believer.

God be with you my Brother and Sisters in Christ, Your Brothers in Christ, Jack, and Collins
